Biologists from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) Fish and Wildlife Research Institute and the Lowry Park Zoo will release a manatee and her calf on Friday, June 13. The truck transporting the manatees is scheduled to arrive at the Calusa Marina at 385 Angler Drive in Goodland as early as 12:30 p.m.

FWC rescued the pair on April 24 in Goodland Bay because they suspected the calf was injured. Both mother and calf were taken to the Lowry Park Zoo in Tampa for rehabilitation.

Biologists have documented the large mother, weighing 1,625 pounds, for over 10 years.

For an up-to-date estimated arrival time, contact Carli Segelson the morning of June 13.
