Contact: Lynne Hawk, 561-625-5122

The dates are set for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) free Hunter Safety course in Martin County on June 29.

Participants can learn about the legal aspects of hunting in Florida. All that is required is successfully completing the Hunter Education online part of the course and printing the completion form prior to attending June 29.  Students will learn about current laws, safe gun handling and wildlife identification before taking the final test.  The safety course also includes live-firing instruction on a shooting range.

The course will be held 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Martin County Sheriff’s Office Range, next to the landfill off of Martin Downs Blvd., in Palm City.

Space is limited, and reservations are required by going online at MyFWC.com/huntered or by calling 561-625-5122.  Everyone born on or after June 1, 1975, must pass this course prior to purchasing a hunting license. An adult must accompany children under 16 years of age to all classes. Children under 18 years of age must present a parental release form signed by the child's parent or legal guardian to participate in the live-fire exercises.

A statewide schedule of hunter safety classes is available at MyFWC.com/huntered.
