For immediate release: June 19, 2008
Contact: Jessica Tice, 850-617-6065
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission
(FWC) and the Wildlife Foundation of Florida will host Bear Day
in Navarre on June 28 from noon to 3 p.m. at Pavilion B in Navarre
Park. Local residents are invited to learn about coexisting with
black bears.
"Biologists will be on hand to answer questions
about bears and can suggest tools to reduce problems and increase
enjoyment of local wildlife," said Jessica Tice, an environmental
scientist with the FWC's Bear Management Program.
Activities include a demonstration on how to retrofit
a trash can to be bear-resistant. A representative from Waste Management
will be on hand to talk to residents about their service needs.
Additionally, free bear-resistant containers will be available to
the public on a first-come, first-serve basis.
Drinks and snacks will be provided, as well as activities
and crafts for kids to learn how to make a plaster cast of an animal
track, touch a real bear hide and other activities. For more information,
e-mail Jessica.Tice@MyFWC.com
or call 850-922-4330.
