The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) today requested public comment about revised management plans for the Florida manatee, gopher tortoise and Panama City crayfish and announced public workshops for each of the three species’ draft plans.

The FWC released revised gopher tortoise and Panama City crayfish management plans today; it released the revised Florida manatee management plan last month.

"Floridians weighed in when we asked for comments about the draft plans,” said Ken Haddad, FWC’s executive director. "We are again asking people to let us know what we can improve in our plans to manage the three species.”

The FWC also is hosting public workshops to encourage comments on the plans.

The Panama City crayfish public workshop is 6-8 p.m. (CDT) May 17 at the Panama City campus auditorium of Florida State University, 4750 Collegiate Drive. For a copy of the agenda, contact David Cook, FWC, 620 South Meridian St., Mail Station 2A, Tallahassee, FL 32399-1600 or call (850) 488-3831.

The Florida manatee public workshop is 6-9 p.m. (EDT) May 21 at the William M. Hollis Seminar Room in the Thad Buckner Building, Florida Southern College, 111 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland. For a copy of the agenda, contact Carol Knox, FWC, 620 South Meridian St., Mail Station 6A, Tallahassee, FL 32399-1600 or call (850) 922-4330.

The gopher tortoise public workshop is 6-9 p.m. (EDT) May 24 at the Paramount Plaza Hotel and Conference Center, 2900 SW 13th St., Gainesville. For a copy of the agenda, contact Dr. Brad Gruver, FWC, 620 South Meridian St., Tallahassee, FL 32399-1600 or call (850) 488-3831.

Anyone requiring special accommodations to participate in the public workshops should advise the FWC at least five days before the workshop by contacting Cindy Hoffman at (850) 488-6411. If you are hearing- or speech-impaired, contact the agency using the Florida Relay Service, 1 (800) 955-8771 (TDD) or 1 (800) 955-8770 (voice).

This second official comment period ends June 14, when the Commission meets in Melbourne. Commissioners will hear public comment at the June meeting and again at the September meeting in St. Petersburg, but no formal action will take place before the Sept. 12-14 meeting.

The revised management plans are available online at MyFWC.com in the "Quick Clicks" area.
