Lake Placid and Babson Park – Join the
dedicated volunteer conservation crew of the Florida Fish and
Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) on Saturday, May 5. The
Ridge Ranger Volunteers will be contributing to an ongoing
wildlife survey along the Lake Wales Ridge in Lake Placid at the
FWC's Massana preserve. Volunteers will meet at 9 a.m. to
install drift fences designed to trap reptiles and amphibians
for identification and release.
In Polk County, volunteers will help land
managers at The Nature Conservancy's Tiger Creek Preserve in
Babson Park. This stewardship project will begin at 8 a.m. Both
projects will finish by noon.
"With less than 15 percent of the original rare
upland habitats of the Lake Wales Ridge left, no conservation
action is too small," said Lynne Flannery, Ridge Rangers
volunteer coordinator.
