Create a Winter Suet Bird Feeder

November is the month to set up winter feeders. A wonderful activity to do with your child is to make Suet Pine Cones. Here's the recipe:

  • 1 cup ground suet
  • 1 cup smooth peanut butter
  • 2-3 cups yellow corn meal
  • 1/2 cup enriched white or whole wheat flour

Melt suet in saucepan (it melts at 70 degrees F). Add peanut butter, stirring until melted and blended. In a separate bowl, mix together the dry ingredients. When the suet/peanut butter mix has cooled and begins to thicken, add the dry ingredients and blend thoroughly. Stuff into pinecones and hang. Suet quickly spoils, so be sure to use it only in cooler weather.
