FLYHEC is a
multi-discipline event that enables its participants to strive and be better
sportsmen while teaching safety and responsibility in addition to testing their
marksmanship skills and hunting knowledge. A program like no other, this
all encompassing experience can really help set the tone of a youngster while
teaching them life experiences.
At first glance, this program looks like a shooting competition. Given the competitive edge, that can be part of the experience, but it goes a great deal further than that. The program teaches the participants about safety, shooting, and the outdoors through eight disciplines or challenges: Archery, Muzzleloading, Shotgun, Small-bore or Light Rifle, Responsibility Exam, Safety Trail, Orienteering Skills and Wildlife Identification Challenge. The hunter safety trail and hunter responsibility exam inspire participants to learn more about ethics, conservation, and being good sportsmen; other events like wildlife identification and the orienteering course allow the participant to gain knowledge and real outdoor skills. The shooting events promote marksmanship and, most importantly, safety. To learn more about Florida’s Youth Hunter Education Challenge, contact… Greg Workman, Director |
